Registrar Tambadou on mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT or Mechanism), Abubacarr M. Tambadou, will be on official mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from 20 to 22 March 2023.
During his mission, Registrar Tambadou will meet with senior BiH government officials, members of the diplomatic community, as well as victims’ representatives.
Ceremony regarding closure of the United Nations Detention Facility and handover to Government of Tanzania
On 23 February 2023, the Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT or Mechanism), Abubacarr M. Tambadou, will officiate over the closure of the United Nations Detention Facility (UNDF) in Arusha, in a handover ceremony to return the premises housing the UNDF to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10:00 on 23 February 2023 at the UNDF.
President Gatti Santana meets with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, in New York. It was their first meeting since Judge Gatti Santana assumed the presidency of the Mechanism on 1 July 2022.
The Secretary-General started by welcoming President Gatti-Santana, and reiterating his ongoing and strong support to the important work and mandate of the Mechanism.
Mechanism Principals hold diplomatic briefing in The Hague
The Principals of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) yesterday held a briefing for the diplomatic corps accredited to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and international organizations.
During the briefing, which was attended by 50 ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, President Graciela Gatti Santana, Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and Registrar Abubacarr M. Tambadou provided an overview and update of the Mechanism’s current activities.
Mechanism Prosecutor on mission to Kigali
Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is on an official visit to Kigali from 14 to 18 November 2022. This visit constitutes part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the United Nations Security Council (“UNSC”).
The Prosecutor is scheduled to meet with key Government officials, including Rwanda’s Prosecutor General Aimable Havugiyaremye, Minister of Justice Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement Jean-Damascène Bizimana and Inspector General of Police Dan Munyuza.
President Gatti Santana launches fourth cycle of Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme
The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today launched the fourth cycle of the Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme) with a lecture on the creation and jurisdiction of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Postgraduate students from 11 universities from across the region of the former Yugoslavia took part in the online event, and it is anticipated that additional universities will join the fourth cycle.
Sarajevo law students visit the Mechanism for Moot Court preparation
On 11 June 2025, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) welcomed to the Mechanism's Hague premises students and professors from the University of Sarajevo Law Faculty, many of whom previously participated in the MIP's Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme).
