The accreditation procedure is now open for attendance at the Review Hearing in the case of Prosecutor v. Gérard Ntakirutimana before the Appeals Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism). The Review Hearing will be held at the Arusha branch of the Mechanism from Monday, 18 November 2024 until Friday, 22 November 2024, subject to adjustments as appropriate.

In recent weeks, Mr. Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, has undertaken official visits to Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and now Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to hold high-level meetings concerning regional cooperation in war crimes matters.

Mr. Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), attended the annual conference of war crimes prosecutors from the Western Balkans region, held this year in Podgorica, Montenegro on 17 and 18 September.

The IRMCT Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) today announces that it has accounted for all fugitives indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) for crimes committed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The OTP has concluded that the last two fugitives – Ryandikayo and Charles Sikubwabo – are deceased. As for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the last fugitive was arrested in 2011.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism or IRMCT) today launched a new Archives catalogue (catalogue), which provides, for the first time, information about the non-judicial archives held by the Mechanism.

Today, the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, was pleased to host a working meeting in The Hague with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Hague-based representatives of States that are currently enforcing sentences imposed by the Mechanism, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Today, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) concluded its Second Judicial Colloquium, which was held over two days on 28 and 29 February 2024 in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania (Tanzania). This high-level event was funded through a generous contribution by the late Mr. Benjamin B. Ferencz, former Prosecutor at the Nuremberg International Military Tribunal, and his son, Mr. Donald Ferencz.
