Sixth cycle of the Inter-University Video Lecture Programme successfully concludes with lecture by Registrar Abubacarr M. Tambadou

The Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) Mr. Abubacarr M. Tambadou delivered today a lecture on the role and functions of the Mechanism, marking the successful conclusion of the sixth cycle of the Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme), titled International Law and Facts Established before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

MIP launches second year of ICC Moot Court workshops for Sarajevo law students

Today, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) organised an online workshop for students and faculty members of the University of Sarajevo’s Law Faculty, as well as alumni of the MIP Inter-University Video Lecture Programme participating in the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Moot Court. This marks the second generation of ICC Moot Court participants benefiting from MIP-led workshops, building on the success of previous sessions.

Prosecutor Serge Brammertz Addresses the United Nations Security Council

Serge Brammertz, Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), today addressed the United Nations Security Council about the work of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP).

Prosecutor Brammertz began by updating the Council on the status of the final matters pending before the Mechanism, including the Ntakirutimana review proceeding, the Kayishema case, the Kabuga case and the Šešelj et al. contempt case.

President Gatti Santana briefs UN Security Council on progress of Mechanism’s work

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today presented the Mechanism’s twenty-fifth progress report to the United Nations Security Council (Council) in New York.

President Gatti Santana began her address by expressing profound gratitude for the support the Mechanism has received from the Council, particularly during the biennial review process that led to the renewal of the Mechanism’s mandate in June 2024.

MIP participates in the UNDP Regional Youth Workshop held in Serbia

From December 4th to 6th, 2024, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) participated in a three-day Regional Youth Workshop organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Belgrade, Serbia. As part of the larger “EU Support to Confidence Building in the Western Balkans Project,” funded by the European Union, the workshop brought together 30 youth and future opinion leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

MIP held lecture and workshop on ICTY legacy for Transitional Justice School participants

On 19 and 20 November 2024, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) participated in the Fourth School on Transitional Justice, held at the premises of the Sarajevo Information Centre on ICTY (IC) in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Organized by the partner organization Pravnik and supported by the European Union and UNDP, the event brought together 24 law and social science students from across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

President Gatti Santana launches sixth cycle of Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme

Today, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), was pleased to inaugurate the sixth cycle of the Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme). The President delivered an opening lecture to over 100 postgraduate students from 14 law faculties and one political science faculty from across the former Yugoslavia. Her remarks were centred on the creation and jurisdiction of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

President Gatti Santana hosts a dialogue on developed practices in the enforcement of international sentences

Today, the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, was pleased to host a working meeting in The Hague with President Tomoko Akane and Registrar Osvaldo Zavala Giler from the International Criminal Court (ICC), President Ekaterina Trendafilova and Registrar Fidelma Donlon from the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC), as well as representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Ministry's Custodial Institutions Agency, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
