The Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) hosted its third online training for law students from the University of Sarajevo and alumni of the Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme) participating in this year's ICC Moot Court Competition.
In July 2024, the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) became aware that Judge Lydia Mugambe was under investigation for certain charges for which she has now been convicted and sentenced by the Oxford Crown Court, United Kingdom. The United Nations Secretary-General was promptly informed of the criminal investigation and thereafter waived Judge Mugambe's immunity concerning these and all related criminal proceedings.

The event focused on enhancing participants' understanding of international criminal law, with particular emphasis on the legacy of the ICTY and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism).
The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today concluded an official visit to the Republic of Rwanda (Rwanda). The visit took place on the occasion of the Thirty-First Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda (Kwibuka31).
Pursuant to its broader role of providing support to the Registrar in fulfilling his responsibilities for the achievement of gender equality and parity at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT or the Mechanism), the Mechanism Gender Focal Point team monitors the progress made towards the achievement of gender equality goals and parity targets at the Mechanism.
As at the end of February 2025, the gender parity statistics in the professional and above category are 52% women and 48% men.

Tambadou delivered today a lecture on the role and functions of the Mechanism, marking the successful conclusion of the sixth cycle of the Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme), titled International Law and Facts Established before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
Today, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) organised an online workshop for students and faculty members of the University of Sarajevo’s Law Faculty, as well as alumni of the MIP Inter-University Video Lecture Programme participating in the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Moot Court. This marks the second generation of ICC Moot Court participants benefiting from MIP-led workshops, building on the success of previous sessions.
Serge Brammertz, Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), today addressed the United Nations Security Council about the work of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP).
Prosecutor Brammertz began by updating the Council on the status of the final matters pending before the Mechanism, including the Ntakirutimana review proceeding, the Kayishema case, the Kabuga case and the Šešelj et al. contempt case.
The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today presented the Mechanism’s twenty-fifth progress report to the United Nations Security Council (Council) in New York.
President Gatti Santana began her address by expressing profound gratitude for the support the Mechanism has received from the Council, particularly during the biennial review process that led to the renewal of the Mechanism’s mandate in June 2024.
From December 4th to 6th, 2024, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) participated in a three-day Regional Youth Workshop organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Belgrade, Serbia. As part of the larger “EU Support to Confidence Building in the Western Balkans Project,” funded by the European Union, the workshop brought together 30 youth and future opinion leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.
