On 19 and 20 November 2024, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) participated in the Fourth School on Transitional Justice, held at the premises of the Sarajevo Information Centre on ICTY (IC) in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Organized by the partner organization Pravnik and supported by the European Union and UNDP, the event brought together 24 law and social science students from across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the occasion of the Thirtieth Anniversary of the establishment of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the Principals of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), President Graciela Gatti Santana, Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and Registrar Abubacarr M. Tambadou, reflected on the ICTR’s legacy and impact. Joining them was the President of the Association of Defence Counsel practising before the International Courts and Tribunals (ADC-ICT), Mr. Dragan Ivetic:

Today, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), was pleased to inaugurate the sixth cycle of the Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme). The President delivered an opening lecture to over 100 postgraduate students from 14 law faculties and one political science faculty from across the former Yugoslavia. Her remarks were centred on the creation and jurisdiction of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Today, the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, was pleased to host a working meeting in The Hague with President Tomoko Akane and Registrar Osvaldo Zavala Giler from the International Criminal Court (ICC), President Ekaterina Trendafilova and Registrar Fidelma Donlon from the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC), as well as representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Ministry's Custodial Institutions Agency, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

On 2 and 3 November 2024, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) took part in a workshop for history teachers focused on incorporating the judicial archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) into teaching about the 1990s conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today presented the Mechanism’s twelfth Annual Report to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York.

At the outset, President Gatti Santana congratulated His Excellency Mr. Philémon Yang of the Republic of Cameroon on his election as President of the 79th session of the General Assembly, noting that His Excellency’s dedication to promoting peace and safeguarding human dignity is in harmony with the wider mandate of the Mechanism.

Mr. Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), visited the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from 23 to 25 September 2024, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
