Mechanism and Arusha’s International Organisations Open Up to Public for Inaugural International Organisations Day

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT or Mechanism) organised and hosted an inaugural International Organisations Open Day at its premises in Lakilaki, Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, on Saturday, 25 November 2017, with over 1000 visitors attending the event.

Following the issuance of the trial judgment in the case Prosecutor vs. Ratko Mladić, Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, gave the following statement to the press:

Today, Ratko Mladić, the Commander of the Main Staff of the Bosnian Serb Army, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his crimes.

Mechanism and Other International Organisations Based in Arusha Welcome the Public to the Arusha International Organisations Open Day

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) and other international, regional and sub-regional organisations in Arusha - the African Court for Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the African Institute of International Law; the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption, the East African Community (EAC) and its constituent institutions, the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA), the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI),and the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) - will hold an inaugural open day on Saturday, 25 November 2017.

MICT and ICTY Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will be in Sarajevo from 6 to 8 November, as part of preparations for his regular biannual reports to the UN Security Council (UNSC), due to be presented in December.

The Prosecutor will meet with the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Acting Chief Prosecutor Gordana Tadić as well as the representatives of victims’ organizations. Additionally, he will meet with members of the diplomatic community.

MICT and ICTY Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will be in Belgrade on 1 and 2 November, as part of preparations for his regular biannual reports to the UN Security Council (UNSC), due to be presented in December.

The Prosecutor will meet with President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Snežana Stanojković. Additionally, he will meet with members of the diplomatic community.

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT or Mechanism) yesterday marked United Nations (UN) Day at its Arusha branch by welcoming to its premises students from all the international schools in and around Arusha to raise awareness of its work and the mission of the United Nations.

President Theodor Meron yesterday presented the fifth Annual Report of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT or Mechanism) to the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting the important developments in the Mechanism’s work over the past 12 months.

Mechanism and ICTY Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will be in Zagreb and Pula from 12 to 14 October. 

As part of the preparations for his regular biyearly reports to the UN Security Council (UNSC), the Prosecutor will meet in Zagreb with Minister of Justice Dražen Bošnjaković and State Attorney General Dinko Cvitan to discuss cooperation with the ICTY and MICT, prosecutions of war crimes by the Croatian judiciary and regional cooperation in war crimes justice in the Western Balkans. It is expected that the Prosecutor will present his reports to the UNSC in December.
