President Meron speaks at Security Council open debate on international law and the rule of law
The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, Judge Theodor Meron, yesterday briefed the UN Security Council on progress toward ensuring accountability for serious violations of international law and the role that different actors, including the Council, can play to advance efforts in this regard.
Bosnian Law students visit the Mechanism’s Hague branch
The study visit of 40 students of the Law Faculty of the Zenica University, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) concluded on 10 May 2018, following two days of lectures and presentations. The visit provided the students with a unique insight into the mandate, work and practices of the Mechanism, as well as the achievements and the legacy of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
Mechanism Welcomes the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Rwanda
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) received a visit from the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Rwanda, His Excellency Johnston Busingye, at the premises of the Mechanism’s Arusha branch on Wednesday, 9 May 2018.
Representatives from the Mechanism warmly welcomed the delegation, thanked the Government of Rwanda for its continued support to the work of the Mechanism and provided a briefing on the new premises of the Mechanism in Arusha.
Delegation from ECOWAS Community Court of Justice visits the Mechanism’s Hague Branch
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) today received a visit from a delegation of the Economic Community of West African (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice at the premises of the Mechanism’s Hague branch. The high-level delegation of Judges and senior officials was led by the President of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, the Honourable Justice Jérôme Traoré.
Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz on mission to Belgrade
Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will be in Belgrade from 9 to 11 May 2018, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
The Prosecutor will meet with President Aleksandar Vučić, Minister of Justice Nela Kuburović, War Crimes Prosecutor Snežana Stanojković and members of diplomatic community.
It is expected that Prosecutor Brammertz will present his next report to the UNSC in early June.

The Appeals Chamber of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals hears oral arguments in the Karadžić case
The Appeals Chamber of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, composed of Judge Theodor Meron, presiding, Judge William Hussein Sekule, Judge Vagn Prüsse Joensen, Judge José Ricardo de Prada Solaesa, and Judge Graciela Susana Gatti Santana heard yesterday and today oral arguments in the appeals filed by Mr. Radovan Karadžić and the Prosecution against the judgement rendered on 24 March 2016 by the Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
Radovan Karadžić Appeal Hearing - accreditation procedure closed
The accreditation procedure for representatives of the media wishing to attend the appeal hearing in the case of Radovan Karadžić, scheduled for 23 and 24 April 2018, is now closed.
Final media information and the list of accredited media are now available on the MICT website.
Journalists are required to pick up their accreditation tickets on Monday, 23 April 2018, between 8.30 and 09:00 at the gate outside the main entrance of the Mechanism’s Hague branch.
