The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) has today made available the dataset from the 2016 research report entitled “Echoes of Testimonies: A Pilot Study into the long-term impact of bearing witness before the ICTY”. The study was conducted by the Victims and Witness Section (VWS) of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the Castleberry Peace Institute of the University of North Texas (UNT).

Prosecutor Brammertz is taking part in a two-day conference in Zagreb entitled “Justice after The Hague”, organised by the Serb National Council, Council of the Serb National Minority for the City of Zagreb, Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past and SENSE – Center for Transitional Justice. The conference brought together prosecutors, members of the civil society, victim’s organisations, journalists and scholars.

Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will visit Zagreb on 9 and 10 October, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).

The Prosecutor will meet with Minister of Justice Dražen Bošnjaković and Chief State Attorney Dražen Jelenić to discuss war crimes processing in Croatia and regional judicial cooperation in war crimes cases.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) has learnt with great sadness of the passing away of Mechanism Judge Mparany Mamy Richard Rajohnson of Madagascar.

The Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Mr. Olufemi Elias, will be on an official visit to Zagreb, the Republic of Croatia, from 3 to 4 October 2018.

As part of the visit, Registrar Elias will meet with the Croatian Minister of Justice, Mr. Dražen Bošnjaković, to discuss the ongoing cooperation between the Mechanism and the Croatian authorities, as well as the possible establishment of an information centre on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in Zagreb.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) yesterday welcomed over 400 members of the public to its premises as part of The Hague International Open Day, organized by the Municipality of The Hague.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) will open its doors to the public on Sunday, 23 September 2018, as part of The Hague International Open Day. The event will take place from 11:00 to 17:00 at the Mechanism’s premises, at Churchillplein 1, in The Hague.

Today, Judge Theodor Meron, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, issued the following statement:

“Nearly two months ago, on the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, I had occasion to express my deep appreciation for the values and aims embodied in that Statute. I wish to take the opportunity today to reiterate my abiding support for the Rome Statute and for the system to which it gave rise.

The initial appearances of Maximilien TURINABO, Anselme NZABONIMPA, Jean de Dieu NDAGIJlMANA, Marie Rose FATUMA, and Dick Prudence MUNYESHULI (Turinabo et al.) are scheduled to be held on Thursday, 13 September 2018, at 13:00 in the courtroom at the Mechanism’s premises in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, before Judge Vagn Joensen, the Single Judge assigned to the matter.

On 3 September 2018, Rwandan authorities executed arrest warrants issued by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals and took into custody Maximilien Turinabo, Anselme Nzabonimpa, Jean de Dieu Ndagijimana, Marie Rose Fatuma and Dick Prudence Munyeshuli. The five accused will be transferred to the seat of the Mechanism in Arusha, Tanzania.
