Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will visit Kigali from 15 to 16 November, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council.

The Prosecutor will meet with Minister of Justice Johnston Busingye and representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office to discuss the search for the remaining ICTR fugitives, cooperation between Rwandan authorities and the Office of the Prosecutor, the Turinabo et al. contempt proceedings and other issues of mutual interest.

Dutch authorities conclude criminal investigation into Slobodan Praljak’s death

Today the Hague Public Prosecutor’s Office released the report on the death of Mr. Slobodan Praljak, one of the six appellants in the Prlić et al. case of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and concluded that no criminal offences were established related to the incident. It further informed the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), as the successor organization to the ICTY of the results of the investigation.

Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will visit Sarajevo from 29 to 31 October, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Prosecutor Brammertz will meet with Acting Chief Prosecutor Gordana Tadić and President Ranko Debevec to discuss the status of war crimes processing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, cooperation with and support from the Mechanism Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) and potential solutions to challenges in regional judicial cooperation in war crimes cases.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) today joins the world in marking United Nations (UN) Day at its Arusha branch by welcoming to its premises students from various international schools in Arusha. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Greening the blue” and focuses on the UN’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability.

Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will visit Belgrade from 22 to 24 October, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).

The Prosecutor will meet with President Aleksandar Vučić, Minister of Justice Nela Kuburović and Chief War Crimes Prosecutor Snežana Stanojković to discuss the implementation of the National War Crimes Strategy, regional judicial cooperation in war crimes cases and support from the Mechanism Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) to Serbian authorities’ efforts to achieve justice for war crimes.

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Theodor Meron, on Friday delivered remarks on the role of international law in combatting impunity at the One Young World Summit in The Hague. The Summit, which took place between 17 and 20 October, gathered a number of distinguished speakers from civil society, the business sector and government and brought together some 1,500 young leaders from around the world in order to debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for the pressing issues faced by the world.
