Yesterday, President Carmel Agius presented the seventh Annual Report of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) to the United Nations General Assembly (Assembly). This was President Agius’ first address to the Assembly since he assumed office in January 2019.

Initial appearance to be held on 17 October 2019 in the Contempt Case of Prosecutor v. Augustin Ngirabatware
The initial appearance of Mr. Augustin Ngirabatware with regard to allegations of contempt is scheduled for Thursday, 17 October 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Courtroom of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, before Judge Vagn Joensen, the Single Judge assigned to the matter.
Mechanism provides Sarajevo Information Centre on the ICTY with certified copies of ICTY and Mechanism judgements
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) has recently provided the Sarajevo Information Centre on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (Centre) with certified copies of all publically available judgements issued by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the Mechanism. These copies were provided in both English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian.
Statement of Prosecutor Serge Brammertz in relation to Review Judgement
Following the issuance of the review judgment in the case Prosecutor v. Augustin Ngirabatware, Chief Prosecutor of the Mechanism, Serge Brammertz, gave the following statement:
My Office is satisfied that the Appeals Chamber accepted our arguments and rejected Augustin Ngirabatware's attempt to secure reversal of his convictions for direct and public incitement to commit genocide and instigating and aiding and abetting genocide. The Appeals Chamber agreed with us that the alleged recantations by four witnesses were not credible or capable of belief.

Today, the Appeals Chamber composed of Judge Theodor Meron (United States), presiding, Judge Joseph E. Chiondo Masanche (Tanzania), Judge Lee G. Muthoga (Kenya), Judge Aminatta Lois Runeni N’gum (Gambia), and Judge Gberdao Gustave Kam (Burkina Faso) delivered its judgement on review in the case of Prosecutor v. Augustin Ngirabatware, Case No. MICT-12-29-R.
