The Mechanism welcomes 30 newly recruited security officials in its Arusha branch

On Thursday, 7 November 2019, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) organised a graduation ceremony for 30 newly recruited Security Officers. During this official ceremony, the Registrar, Mr. Olufemi Elias welcomed and congratulated the new Security Officers. Speaking at the event, the Registrar reiterated the importance he, under the delegated authority from the United Nations Secretary General, attaches to gender parity and proudly announced that the Mechanism has achieved gender parity within the Security and Safety Section.

Mechanism Chief Prosecutor, Serge Brammertz today met with the representatives of the Operative Working Group on Missing Persons in Sarajevo, as part of his official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Among the topics discussed at the meeting were the challenges in finding missing persons from the war, exchange of information between the respective institutions that form the Operative Group and the support by the Mechanism’s Office of the Prosecutor in this process.

Yesterday, President Carmel Agius presented the seventh Annual Report of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) to the United Nations General Assembly (Assembly). This was President Agius’ first address to the Assembly since he assumed office in January 2019.

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Carmel Agius, met yesterday with Secretary-General António Guterres at United Nations Headquarters in New York.  It was their first meeting since President Agius assumed office in January 2019.
