President Agius pays respects to victims at 24th Commemoration of Srebrenica genocide
Judge Carmel Agius, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), today attended the Commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide at the Potočari memorial in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In paying his respects to the victims President Agius delivered remarks, along with a number of other high-level dignitaries including Mr Sefik Džaferović, current Bosniak Member of the BiH Presidency. In addition, Mr Nedžad Avdić, a survivor of the genocide, addressed the ceremony.
Mechanism welcomes Delegation of Chief Justices from Selected African Countries to its Arusha premises
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) received Chief Justices from Gambia, Ghana, Mauritius, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Zambia on its Arusha premises, as part of their working visit to Tanzania, organised by the African Institute of International Law and the African Foundation for International Law on Friday, 5 June 2018.
Mechanism launches media tool kit page and social media campaign commemorating the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) has today launched a media tool kit page, aimed for use by the media as part of the wider coverage of the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. In addition, on 9 July 2019, as part of the commemorations, the Mechanism’s Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) will launch a social media campaign, entitled “Remember Srebrenica Genocide”.
Mechanism Principals participate in “Stop Genocide and Holocaust Denial” conference in Sarajevo
The Principals of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), President, Judge Carmel Agius, Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, and Registrar Olufemi Elias, today participated in a conference entitled “Stop Genocide and Holocaust Denial” in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). All three Principals today delivered keynote remarks as part of the conference opening session, which also included a video message from Mr. Adama Dieng, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide.
Prosecutor Brammertz on mission to Sarajevo
Mechanism Chief Prosecutor, Serge Brammertz will visit Sarajevo from 19 to 21 June, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
Prosecutor Brammertz will meet with Chief Prosecutor, Gordana Tadić to discuss the status of war crimes processing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, cooperation with and support from the Mechanism Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) and potential solutions to challenges in regional judicial cooperation in war crimes cases. The Prosecutor will also provide a briefing to members of the diplomatic community.

Chief Prosecutor Brammertz presents remarks on the protection of cultural heritage in Geneva
Mechanism Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz presented remarks today in Geneva at the conference on the protection of cultural heritage marking the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention, convened jointly by UNESCO and the Government of Switzerland.
The conference aimed to share and deliberate on the achievements and challenges facing the implementation of the Second Protocol and the protection of cultural property in armed conflict today.
