IRMCT Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz Attends Annual Regional War Crimes Prosecutors Conference
Mr. Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), participated in the annual conference of war crimes prosecutors from the Western Balkans, held this year in Brijuni, Croatia, from 2 to 4 September. The conference was organized by UNDP with the support of the European Union and the United Kingdom.
Discussion with IRMCT Chief Prosecutor Held at the Sarajevo Information Centre on the ICTY
Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), Mr. Serge Brammertz, met today with a group of 30 young legal professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Sarajevo Information Centre on the ICTY. The event was organised by the Association “PRAVNIK” with the support of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP).
Chief Prosecutor Brammertz concludes mission to Rwanda
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Mr. Serge Brammertz, concluded an official visit to Kigali, Rwanda from 05 to 09 May 2025, as part of the continuing cooperation between the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) and Rwandan authorities regarding the investigation and prosecution of individuals alleged to have participated in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The Appeals Chamber Pronounces a Review Judgement in the Case of Prosecutor v. Gérard Ntakirutimana
Today, the Appeals Chamber composed of Judge Graciela Gatti Santana (Uruguay), presiding, Judge Jean-Claude Antonetti (France), Judge Burton Hall (The Bahamas), Judge Aminatta Lois Runeni N'gum (Gambia), and Judge Seon Ki Park (South Korea) orally pronounced its judgement on review in the case of Prosecutor v. Gérard Ntakirutimana, Case No. MICT-12-17-R.
Chief Prosecutor Brammertz Concludes Mission to Rwanda
Mr. Serge Brammertz, Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, has concluded an official visit to Kigali, Rwanda from 4 to 9 November 2024, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the United Nations Security Council.
The Prosecutor had high-level meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, the Secretary-General of the National Intelligence and Security Service, Mr. Aimable Havugiyaremye, and the Prosecutor General, Angélique Habyarimana.
First mission in relation to the monitoring of the Šešelj et al. contempt of court case concludes today in Belgrade
The inaugural mission of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), in relation to monitoring the proceedings of the Šešelj et al. case, concluded today in Belgrade, Serbia. This multi-day mission, conducted by the Officer-in-Charge of the Mechanism Registry's Hague Branch, Mr. Samuel Algozin, and the appointed Monitor, Mr. Brent Hicks, focused on introducing the Monitor, in preparation for the start of the proceedings of the referred case.
Review Hearing in the Prosecutor v. Gérard Ntakirutimana from 18 to 22 November 2024 - Accreditation Procedure Now Open
The accreditation procedure is now open for attendance at the Review Hearing in the case of Prosecutor v. Gérard Ntakirutimana before the Appeals Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism). The Review Hearing will be held at the Arusha branch of the Mechanism from Monday, 18 November 2024 until Friday, 22 November 2024, subject to adjustments as appropriate.
