Prosecutor Serge Brammertz of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) today addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He began by providing an update regarding the limited number of ongoing proceedings under the Mechanism’s jurisdiction, namely the appeal in Mladić, the retrial in Stanišić and Simatović, pre-trial proceedings in the Turinabo et al. contempt case and the review proceeding in Ngirabatware.

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Carmel Agius, today presented the Mechanism’s fifteenth progress report to the United Nations Security Council (Council), outlining its judicial work and other key activities during the past six months.

Mechanism hosts a study visit for journalists from the former Yugoslavia

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) hosted on Tuesday, 3 December 2019 a study visit for twelve journalists from the region of the former Yugoslavia. During the visit, the journalists learned about the Mechanism and received training on how to access the Court Records Database of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

The Mechanism welcomes the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to its Arusha branch premises

On Thursday, 21 November 2019, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) received a visit from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Ambassador Mette Noergaard Dissing-Spandet, at the premises of the Mechanism’s Arusha branch.

Mechanism Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is visiting Kigali from 25 to 27 November.

As part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC), the Prosecutor is meeting with the Prosecutor General of Rwanda, Jean Bosco Mutangana, and senior officers of relevant agencies to discuss issues of mutual concern, including the search for the eight remaining ICTR fugitives, judicial cooperation in on-going Mechanism cases and support from the Mechanism Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) to Rwandan authorities.
