The accreditation procedure is now open for those wishing to attend broadcasts at the Arusha branch of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) of the Opening Statements and the commencement of the presentation of evidence in the case of Prosecutor v. Félicien Kabuga.

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, today welcomed the Mayor of The Hague, Mr. Jan van Zanen, to the Mechanism’s Hague branch. In hosting Mayor van Zanen, President Gatti Santana was joined by the Mechanism’s long-serving Judge from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Judge Alphons Orie.

Today Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania (Tanzania), at the State House in Dar es Salaam. Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan was accompanied by Hon. Amb. Liberata Mulamula, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and Dr. Damas D. Ndumbaro, Minister of Constitutional and Legal Affairs.

Opening Statements in the case of Prosecutor v. Félicien Kabuga are scheduled to be heard on Thursday, 29 September 2022 and Friday, 30 September 2022, at 10:00 CEST/11:00 EAT in the Courtroom of the Hague branch of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism). The Trial Chamber is scheduled to continue the case the following week, when it will commence hearing the presentation of evidence on Wednesday, 5 October 2022 at 10:00 CEST/11:00 EAT.

The Trial Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”), composed of Judge Iain Bonomy, Presiding, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana and Judge Elizabeth Ibanda-Nahamya, will hold the Pre-Trial Conference in the case of Prosecutor v. Félicien Kabuga on Thursday, 18 August 2022 at 10:00 CEST/11:00 EAT in the Courtroom of the Hague branch of the Mechanism.

Today, the former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma, visited the Arusha branch of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism). His Excellency was joined by Mr. Sheriff Mahmud Ismail, Special Executive Assistant to His Excellency; Ms. Franya Elisabeth Cabral-Ruiz, Advisor to His Excellency; and Mr. Marx Chocha, Assistant to the Consul of Sierra Leone.
