Registrar Tambadou concludes first visit to Dar es Salaam as Registrar of the Mechanism

On 3 December 2020, the Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”), Mr. Abubacarr Tambadou, concluded his first visit to Dar es Salaam in his capacity as Registrar of the Mechanism. During his visit, Registrar Tambadou met with senior officials of the United Republic of Tanzania, as well as some members of the diplomatic community in Dar es Salaam.

Registrar Tambadou on 1 December 2020 was received by Honourable Palamagamba Kabudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania to discuss issues of mutual interest and cooperation between the Mechanism and Tanzania. Registrar Tambadou reiterated his gratitude for the excellent cooperation that the Mechanism and its staff continue to receive from the Tanzanian Government. Registrar Tambadou also met with Prof. Ibrahim Hamis Juma, Chief Justice of Tanzania and briefed him on the mandate and activities of the Mechanism.

Registrar Tambadou also paid a courtesy call on some members of the diplomatic community accredited to Tanzania, including H.E Yuri Popov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Peter Acker, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E David Concar, British High Commissioner  to the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Regine Hess, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Republic of Tanzania and Mr. Zlatan Milisic, the UN Resident Coordinator in Tanzania. Registrar Tambadou expressed appreciation to the members of the diplomatic community for the continued interest in and on-going support for the work of the Mechanism.

Registrar Tambadou was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as Registrar of the Mechanism effective 1 July 2020.
