Access to the Mechanism Archives

The Research Room is operated by the Mechanism Archives and Records Management Section (MARS). Access is by appointment only. Contact marshague [at] (MARS in The Hague). Please do so well in advance of travel to The Hague, in case we are unable to accommodate you for any reason. To make arrangements to visit the public galleries of the courtrooms please go to ICTY Visits.

Opening Hours

The Research Room operates from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00. It is closed on UN holidays.

The Mechanism shares a building with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, located opposite the World Forum.

The Mechanism is easily reached by car, bicycle, tram or bus.

To enter the building you are required to go through airport style security. Lockers are available at security to store personal items. You are required to present valid photo ID such as a driver’s licence or passport. Once you are in the building you will receive a temporary pass at reception. You are required to leave your ID with security for the duration of your visit. MARS staff will meet you in the lobby to escort you to the Research Room.

Public Facilities  

The building is wheelchair accessible. However, if you require additional assistance, please notify MARS staff when you make an appointment. Toilets, including wheelchair accessible stalls, are available. There are some snack machines available in the lobby.  Wi-fi is is available in the Lobby.
