President Agius meets with Croatian Minister of Justice and Public Administration

Today, the Minister of Justice and Public Administration of the Republic of Croatia, His Excellency Dr. Ivan Malenica, visited the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) in The Hague and met with the President of the Mechanism, Judge Carmel Agius. Ms. Maja Vitaljić, Director of the Croatian Directorate for European Affairs, International and Judicial Cooperation and Prevention of Corruption, was also in attendance, together with the Croatian Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Her Excellency Ms. Dubravka Plejić Marković.

Following on from President Agius’ official visit to Croatia in November 2021, today’s meeting focused on the notable progress made regarding the establishment of an Information Centre on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in Zagreb. In particular, President Agius and Minister Malenica discussed the proposed location of the Information Centre on the ICTY, being the Croatian State Archives, as well as the time-frame for the Centre’s establishment and opening.

A number of other topics of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting, including cooperation of the countries of the former Yugoslavia with the Mechanism.
