Introduction

This section provides an overview of the cases before the ICTY concerning the crimes committed in Kosovo in 1998. It also contains a selection of archival material and the videos produced by the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP).

Remember Lapušnik Victims

In the summer of 1998, the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) operated a prison camp in Lapušnik, Kosovo, where detainees were subjected to serious mistreatment. From mid-June to late July 1998, prisoners were held in inhumane conditions and subjected to physical abuse. The ICTY sentenced former KLA soldier Haradin Bala to 13 years' imprisonment for crimes committed against prisoners of the camp. This video includes testimonies of a father and son who survived their detention at the camp.

Remember Lake Radonjić Victims

In early September 1998, Serbian police discovered 30 bodies of murdered Kosovo Albanians, Serbs, and Roma around Radonjić Lake in Kosovo. The ICTY established beyond reasonable doubt that the Kosovo Liberation Army was responsible for the deaths of a number of the victims discovered there. For these crimes, the ICTY sentenced former KLA soldier Haradin Bala to 13 years' imprisonment. This video includes testimonies of survivors who witnessed the events surrounding Radonjić Lake.
