On 10 February, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) participated in the online webinar “How to use the IRMCT/ICTY archive for inclusive memorialisation?”. The event was organised by the British Council as the first in a series of webinars under the project “Different Memories, Shared Futures: Towards Inclusive Memorialisation in the Western Balkans.”

MIP researcher Mr. Nemanja Stjepanović provided a brief overview of what the ICTY and IRMCT legacy represents. He emphasized the importance of the IRMCT/ICTY archive as a valuable repository of stories from the 1990s for the purposes of the project organised by the British Council. Mr. Stjepanović also discussed ways of using the archive, research approaches, and methods for accessing and utilising the IRMCT/ICTY archive.

The webinar was attended by representatives of various organisations, including, among others: Drama Studio Prazan Prostor (Montenegro), Youth Centre Kvart (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past (Croatia), Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo, ŠkArt (Serbia/Montenegro), KROKODIL (Serbia), Integra (Kosovo), Srebrenica Memorial Centre (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Youth Initiative for Human Rights Kosovo, Post-Conflict Research Center (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights – Osijek (Croatia).

During the webinar, Mr. Nemanja Stjepanović highlighted the openness of the MIP programme to the participating organisations from the British Council project. He noted that the organisations present were given the opportunity to stay in contact and coordinate with MIP regarding the implementation of their projects. MIP will be available to provide support in any aspect related to working with the ICTY and IRMCT legacy and archives.

The MIP’s participation in this webinar forms part of the Programme’s efforts to support projects and events organised by civil society organisations active in the field of transitional justice in the region of the former Yugoslavia.

The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on the jurisprudence of the ICTY and the Mechanism.

The MIP is funded by the European Union.
