On 21 April 2021, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held an online lecture for 24 young people from Serbia regarding judicially-established facts concerning the Srebrenica genocide. The lecture was held as part of a three-day long online seminar entitled “Practices of Remembering the Srebrenica Genocide”, organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Serbia and Forum ZFD Serbia.

MIP Researcher Nemanja Stjepanović presented a timeline of events that took place during July 1995 in Srebrenica, and provided an overview of the ICTY and Mechanism cases dealing with the crimes committed during this period.

During the lecture, Mr. Stjepanović stressed the facts about the Srebrenica genocide that have been judicially established in numerous cases before the ICTY and Mechanism are based on vast amounts of evidence, including testimonies, documents, audiovisual recordings, maps, photographs, and other records. He further emphasised that the amount of evidence presented, and the volume of findings made as a result of that evidence, leaves no room for denial about what happened in Srebrenica in July 1995.

This lecture forms a part of the MIP’s efforts to support projects and events organised by the civil society organisations from the former Yugoslavia that are active in the field of transitional justice.

The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on ICTY and Mechanism cases. The MIP is generously supported by the European Union and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
