Mechanism President Meron on official visit to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Theodor Meron, will be on an official visit to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and Croatia from 19 to 22 November 2018.

The official visit commences in Serbia, where President Meron will meet with the Serbian Prime Minister, Ms. Ana Brnabić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ivica Dačić and with the Minister of Justice, Ms. Nela Kuburović, on 19 and 20 November in Serbia.  

On 20 and 21 November, President Meron will travel to BiH, where he will meet with the High Representative, Mr. Valentin Inzko as well as with the Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers, Mr. Denis Zvizdić.  In addition, as part of his stay in Sarajevo, President Meron will also meet with the Mayor of Sarajevo, Mr. Abdulah Skaka, and he will give a lecture at the Sarajevo Information Centre on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

President Meron will conclude his visit in Croatia, where he will meet with the Croatian Prime Minister, Mr. Andrej Plenković, as well as with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Ms. Marija Pejčinović Burić, and the Minister of Justice, Mr. Dražen Bošnjaković, on 21 and 22 November.

This is the final official visit of President Meron to the region of the former Yugoslavia before he concludes his mandate as the Mechanism’s President on 18 January 2019. President Meron has previously served four terms as the President of the ICTY and two previous terms as President of the Mechanism. Judge Carmel Agius will assume the Presidency of the Mechanism as of 19 January 2019.
