On 25 September 2026, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) delivered an online lecture as part of the seminar “War Crimes: Research, Facts and Accountability”, organized by the Humanitarian Law Centre (HLC) in Belgrade, Serbia.

The four-day seminar, held from 24 to 27 September, brought together students and young professionals interested in researching and documenting war crimes and other serious human rights violations committed during the conflicts of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia. The programme introduced participants to different approaches to fact-finding, research methodologies, the use of judicial and archival sources, and the responsible use of sensitive materials.

During the lecture, MIP researcher Mr. Nemanja Stjepanović spoke about the legacy of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), focusing on the Tribunal’s contribution to establishing facts about crimes committed during the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia. He also discussed the importance of judicial records and other materials generated through ICTY/IRMCT proceedings as sources for further research and understanding of the conflicts and their consequences.

This lecture forms part of the MIP’s efforts to support projects and events organized by civil society organizations from the former Yugoslavia engaged in the field of transitional justice.

The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on ICTY and Mechanism cases.

The MIP is funded by the European Union.
