Today, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”) donated a Police Post to the Arusha Regional Police at the Ngorbob Village, in the Kisongo area of Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. The hand-over ceremony was held in the presence of the Arusha Regional Police Commander, Mr. Justine Majura Masejo, and a representative of the Arumeru District Commissioner, Mr. Hudhaifa Kassim Rashid.

The donation is part of the close collaboration between the Arusha Regional Police and the Mechanism to reinforce the security in the area where the Mechanism’s Arusha premises are located. In this context, the Office of the Arusha Regional Police Commander, through the Arumeru District Commissioner’s Office, provided the piece of land which will host the Police Post donated by the Mechanism. The Police Post consists of two decommissioned 40-feet shipping containers, customized to the Arusha Regional Police’s specifications.

The ceremony at the Police Post began with welcoming remarks from the Mechanism’s Chief of Security in Arusha. Thereafter, the Special Assistant to the Registrar of the Mechanism cut the ribbon together with Mr. Rashid and Mr. Masejo. This was followed by a tour of the Police Post and remarks from a number of participants, celebrating the long-lasting partnership between the Mechanism and Tanzania.
