The Mechanism welcomes the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Tanzania

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) received a visit from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Tanzania, His Excellency Peter Van Acker, at the premises of the Mechanism’s Arusha branch on Wednesday, 12 December 2018.

Representatives from the Mechanism’s three organs warmly welcomed the Belgian Ambassador, provided an overview of the functions and structure of the Mechanism and thanked the Government of Belgium for its support to the Mechanism and its work.

The Ambassador thanked the Mechanism’s representatives for their hospitality, reiterated the Government of Belgium’s support to international criminal justice and to the important work of the Mechanism. The Ambassador informed the Mechanism’s representatives that Belgium shall be sitting as a non-permanent member of the Security Council as of January 2019 and that Belgium looked forward to further cooperation with the Mechanism.

As part of his visit, the Ambassador visited the courtroom and the library of the Mechanism.
