Internships in the Mechanism Archives and Records Section

The Mechanism Archives and Records Section (MARS) is responsible for preserving and providing access to the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the Mechanism itself. MARS is also responsible for providing record-keeping services to Mechanism offices.

Internship Description

As an intern with MARS, you will work on a range of programmes and projects with archivists, researchers, and other staff. Depending on your background and interest, activities may include:

  • Assisting with the development of educational and promotional materials;
  • Creating finding aids for Tribunal Archives;
  • Assisting with the preservation of physical or digital records ;
  • Assisting with digitisation-related tasks such as metadata migration and quality control review of audiovisual records; and/or
  • Assisting with provision of record-keeping services.

What we look for

A successful internship candidate for MARS will have:

  • The ability to work with a range of IT systems;
  • Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail; and
  • A demonstrated interest in working in the fields of archives and/or records management.

English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Kinyarwanda or Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian is an asset.
