MIP contributes to the 20th International Summer School Sarajevo 2026
On 5 August 2026, representatives of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) delivered presentations at the 20th International Summer School Sarajevo 2026. The Summer School gathered 26 students from 20 countries, including countries of the former Yugoslavia. Among the lecturers were former and current staff of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (the Mechanism), and the International Criminal Court (ICC), as well as other experts in international law.
Organised by the Association “Pravnik” and the Rule of Law Programme SouthEast Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the event is fully accredited by the University of Sarajevo. The programme took place at the Sarajevo Information Centre on the ICTY, situated in Sarajevo City Hall.
This year’s MIP contribution was delivered by Ms Rada Pejić Sremac, Coordinator of the MIP, together with Mr Nemanja Stjepanović, MIP Researcher. The presentation was structured in two parts.
In the first two sessions,, Ms Pejić Sremac presented the work and legacy of the ICTY and the Mechanism, as well as the activities of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities. She introduced participants to a range of MIP educational resources, including videos, online exhibitions, and other materials developed by the Programme to support learning about international criminal justice and the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.
The remaining two sessions, delivered by Mr Stjepanović, focused on judicially established facts and the evidentiary material on which those findings are based. In this context, he introduced participants to the potential of the Mechanism's archives as a unique resource for research, education, and fact-based learning. He also demonstrated practical ways of accessing and using the archive through the Unified Court Records database.
Participation in the 20th International Summer School Sarajevo forms part of the MIP’s ongoing efforts to support projects and events implemented by civil society organisations active in the field of transitional justice in the former Yugoslavia.
The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on ICTY and Mechanism cases.
The MIP is funded by the European Union.
